The provincial Test Team is a multi-stakeholder group of <20 decision makers on the directionality and focus areas of the work of the Lab. These volunteers are drivers of change interested in improving the sport of hockey by making it more accessible, equitable, and welcoming. Importantly, these are not necessarily people who are already involved in hockey; in fact, many team members may have no direct experience with the sport. They are often opinion leaders and big thinkers in their communities. They have respect in the community and have the ability to build meaningful relationships.
The Test Team members look at old issues in new ways, and come up with creative solutions together. Primarily, members are eager to make changes both personally and professionally to meet the challenge of systematic, intentional efforts toward improving community sport outcomes in Nova Scotia. The Test Team will need to develop a new set of competencies that will shift not only this external work but internal relationships as they work together to realize the Future of Hockey Lab vision. Each member of the Test Team holds a particular focus area as per the research (e.g. cost, policy, rinks, training/education, scaling, etc.) and, as the lead for that area of focus, they are deeply embedded in at least one initiative within their defined area. This is a volunteer position however a small stipend is available. Those having to travel (e.g. in-person meetings when restrictions permit) will have hotel accommodation arranged and be reimbursed for mileage. |
In keeping with the values of the lab, provincial Test Team membership will aim to achieve gender parity ("50%") and significant representation ("30%") of other under-represented groups, including racialized persons, people living with disabilities and members of the 2LGBTQ+ community. Ethnic diversity is important as is socio-economic diversity, a range of ages, and geography (urban/rural mix). A mix of community volunteers from both within and outside the current hockey system
will also be critical. All provincial Test Team members commit to participating in:
Up to four (quarterly) in-person meetings ranging from one to two full days. Location will vary around the province. Approximately eight shorter meetings per year ranging from 1-3 hours long. Meetings will be held via web conferencing with a commitment to accessibility for all. Projects, prototypes, follow-up, and/or preparation between meetings. This time commitment varies. |

Sport leaders have wanted this for years but often get stuck on the “how”.
So we’re going for it. We’re discovering new.
