Welcome! We’re in for two days like no other. Our facilitation team has designed a week-end that will challenge us all to consider how we can, as a very small group – or even as individuals – make a meaningful difference. We know that hockey centers one type of person and is not an option for many, many people; and participation numbers continue to decline. There are many great programs underway across the province but those of us in this room are tasked with what OUR role could be. And it’s not just how to bring more people in to hockey, but how to change hockey to attract more people.
This week-end is the KICK-OFF to a six-month experience. Everything after this week-end builds from today. OPENING CIRCLEClick here for Land Acknowledgment
Click here for guidelines around the space we're trying to create. YOU ACCEPTED A CHALLENGE TO TRY TO MAKE HOCKEY MORE EQUITABLE, AND NOW YOU'RE HERE... WHY?
"It's hard to make change in my position, there's a-lot of change to the culture needed. Hockey stands a good chance to make a change because of the people that are in the space." "I'm tired of hearing 'thats a great idea.'" "Something has to give.. and something has to change." "I want to blow through the diversity wall." "I was the only black guy on the team. Hockey was good to me, but the access wall needs to break down." "I want to help open doors and give people opportunities I didn't have." "Black kids don't want to play hockey." "The price to play hockey is so much more compared to soccer." "My kids are now getting into hockey and that's why I'm here. I am here to share the hurdles & recommendations." "I grew up privileged, I want to set a good example for the kids and the other coaching staff. I'm ready to look at sport from a different lens other than elite sport." "I've never seen someone like me in hockey and I kept asking myself 'why?'" "I couldn't relate to my peers about hockey." "I want to have a voice and be a part of the change." "'Your daughter took my son's place'- this narrative has got to change!" DATA WALK |

OPENING CIRCLE
WE COVERED A LOT YESTERDAY! WHAT'S THE BURNING QUESTION YOU'RE ARRIVING WITH TODAY?
"What permissions are needed from Hockey Nova Scotia?"
"How do power structures make space?"
"How to access funding and get off the ground?"
"How do we merge ideas with what communities want?"
"What's the difference between having a policy and implementing a policy?"
"How can I best support the growth of the Future of Hockey Lab?"
"How do we take what we've learned here and drive it home?"
"How to scale what we come up with and what role can technology play?"
"How do I incorporate this in my life?"
"What's the relationship between Hockey NS, Sport NS, and the NSO (Hockey Canada)? How do we implement and hold accountable? "
"There will be resistance... What's our plan to manage that?"
"Is it practical to expect prototypes to emerge?"
"What does success look like?"
"How do we choose what gets chosen and what gets left behind?"
"What do I take away that I can get going on?"
